The incident record
The Royal Fire began on July 7, 2024, west of Soda Springs near Soda Springs Road in Placer County. CAL FIRE’s incident listing identifies the Tahoe National Forest Service as the agency with jurisdiction and records 215 acres and 100% containment. Its listed final update is July 20, 2024. The cause remains listed as under investigation. Read the official Royal Fire record.
The earlier acreage, developing evacuation information and weather advice on this page belonged to that July 2024 event. They have been retired from this summary.
Coop’s read
Having lived through the Caldor, Tamarack and Angora fires, I know what that smoke on the horizon does to a community. The firefighters, the families waiting for news and the people forced to leave home deserve our attention and support.
I appreciate the people who kept Truckee and Tahoe informed as the Royal Fire developed, including JD and the team at 101.5 Truckee Tahoe Radio. Good local reporting matters when people need clear information quickly.
