Why GenAI Marketing Fails to Connect (And What to Do)

Buenos dìas my friends, Cup'O'Joe in hand, #StokeLevelSolid.

I was reading a pretty heavy piece from McKinsey this morning, all about "unlocking the next frontier of personalized marketing."

It's a smart article, and you can read it here. It talks about how brands are struggling to connect, how customers are completely saturated with content, and how old-school personalization (like just using your name in an email) isn't cutting it anymore.

Their "next frontier" is all about GenAI, real-time data signals, and "omnichannel orchestration." It's a very rational, data-driven look at using AI to create thousands of content variations, all perfectly timed to your digital breadcrumbs.

On paper, it makes sense.

But humbly, as I was reading it, I couldn't help but feel something critical was missing. Where's the connection? Where's the authenticity?

In our world—in the mountains, on the water, in our communities—connection isn't built by an algorithm. It's built on trust. It's built on "boots on the ground" proof.

Is the "next frontier" really a more sophisticated robot whispering in our ear? Or is it getting back to basics and showing something real?

McKinsey is 100% right about one thing: people are drowning in noise. But I'd argue that adding 1,000 AI-generated "personalized" messages is just creating more, slightly-better-targeted noise.

The real way to cut through isn't a better algorithm. It's a better, more human story. And the most powerful way to tell that story is through authentic video.

An "orchestrated" email from an AI doesn't make you feel anything. But a 30-second video of something real—the local shop owner, the non-profit at work, the first tracks on a pow day—that builds an instant connection.

This is the space Court and I live in. We're not AI orchestrators. We're storytellers.

We're brand advocates who believe that the most powerful "personalization" comes from a genuine, shared story. We just... get it. We understand that before you can sell anything, you have to build trust.

Our philosophy is simple:

  • Court Leve Productions is here to bring your story to life, capturing the authentic, human moments that make your brand or cause unique.

  • Cooper Marketing & Media then builds the mindful strategy that brings that story onto the screen of the right audience, building a real community.

We've worked with everyone from 501(c)(3)s to major cities, and we know this human-first approach is what builds lasting connections.

The "next frontier" doesn't have to be so complicated. It just has to be real.

If you're more focused on your purpose than your personalization algorithm, maybe we should talk. Court and I are here to help.
