Summer on Lake Tahoe: Trails, Paddles & Time Outside
Evening, my friends. Glass’O’Red in hand, thinking about summer on Big Blue.
A trail, a paddle, a little time with people you enjoy. Tahoe gives us plenty to work with. I would rather leave room for a good day than turn the whole visit into a race around the lake.
Find your part of the lake
Lake Tahoe Travel, formerly Go Tahoe North, covers the north, west and east shores. Visit Lake Tahoe is a useful starting point for South Shore activities, lodging and events. Pick the area you want to spend time in, then build the day around it.
Trails and two wheels
TAMBA builds and cares for multi-use trails around Tahoe. Its website has trail projects, access information and volunteer days. Those trails represent a lot of hard work. Give the people and the land a little respect when you ride.
For hiking ideas, the visitor sites above link to routes and planning information. Read the details for the actual route: distance, climbing, access and the land manager’s posted restrictions. Leave yourself time to enjoy where you are.
Time on Big Blue
The Lake Tahoe Water Trail puts paddle routes, launch locations and trip planning in one place. For boat tours, rentals and fishing information, start with the visitor site for your shore.
Wind has a say in the day. The Tahoe weather report keeps the forecast and lake conditions close at hand.
Keep the trip within reach
Compare the total lodging cost, including fees. If your dates are flexible, compare midweek with the weekend. Pack lunch, bring water and save a little room in the budget for a local place you want to try.

Pack your trash
#PackYourTrash. #EmpaqueSuBasura. Beach, trail or boat, it comes home with you. Pick up the small stuff too. Bottle caps and snack wrappers have a way of escaping when the wind comes up.
Be kind to the people working here. Give other folks room to enjoy the place. Come back with a good story and leave Tahoe with less trash than you found.
